Change

Your paper needs to address each one of the questions below.
Don't forget to use these questions to guide your note taking!

  • What did each movement hope to change?
  • When did each movement take place?
  • Who were the major participants in each movement? (individual people and groups)
  • Who fought against each movement and why?
  • Was there any overlap in participants?
  • What were similarities between the two movements? (think about how participants protested, how they recruited others, what types of people fought for this reform - race, color, creed, sex, ses)
  • What were the major differences? (think about how participants protested, how they recruited others, what types of people fought for this reform - race, color, creed, sex, ses)
  • Were either of these two movements permanently successful?
Other important things to think about and include:
  • What else was historically taking place in society that may have affected the movement? (think about finances, wars, relations with other countries, migrations)
  • What role does the US Constitution play in these histories?
  • Do either of the reform movements you chose affect us today?
