Change

A comparison study of change in the United States.

Change in American society doesn't seem to come at a steady pace; it comes in waves. Every few decades a fresh wave of controversies, protests and new ideas shake up and eventually change the status quo.

One such time in American history, now known to us as the Progressive Era, lasted from 1840 to 1930.

The quick urbanization of American society brought about corrupt city governments, crime and poverty. People wanted change; overall they wanted to make the world a better place. There were economic, politcal, social and moral reforms taking place. Many of these ideas for a better society eventually made it to a national level by having laws passed by congress or adopting new constitutional amendments. The world we know today would be a very different place if it weren't for these reformers.
